Stadium's Giant Donut Fried Chicken Sandwich Has to Be Seen to Be Believed

The 2023 MLB season is officially over, and as teams enter the postseason, one franchise is serving up some eye-popping new menu items for spectators.

The Atlanta Braves just announced that they're ringing in the postseason with a slate of new dishes available for purchase at Truist Park. The marquee item is the double-stack "Chicken Ain’t Nothing but a Bird Blue" sandwich, which features fried lemon pepper chicken breasts topped with pickled green tomatoes and bourbon coulis, all sandwiched between three glazed donuts functioning as buns. Clearly not for the faint of heart, both figuratively and literally.

If you want something a little lighter (figuratively, if not literally), why not try the "Whole ‘Nother Ball Game" meatball? The 28-ounce hunk of beef is braised in San Marzano pomodoro sauce for two hours and topped with fresh mozzarella cheese and sauce and served in a glove-shaped bread bowl.

There are other meat- and poultry-centered offerings you can take back to your seat if you want something else. "The Brushback" contains half a pound of tender beef brisket smoked for 12 hours right there in the outfield at Truist Park; the massive meat serving is topped with caramelized onions, mushrooms, and jalapeños and accompanied with au jus. "The Fowl Pole" features three sweet tea-brined fried chicken thighs served with Coca-Cola BBQ sauce. And "The Sweet Grounder" is a charbroiled Italian sausage smothered with provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, onions, and garlic aioli and served on a soft roll.

And if you're looking to wash your snacks down with some drinks, the Braves have you covered. Check out the new libations like the Blue It Bayou made with vodka and blue curaçao or the Sweet Georgia Peach Smash with whiskey, lemon juice, sliced peach, seltzer water, and simple syrup.

Executive chef Louis Martorano explained that delivering dishes like these is in line with the Braves' ethos as a whole.

"The team has such an elevated approach to baseball, so we like to do that with the food," Martorano said, per The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "Food only comes through if you cook with passion, so we think we did that for sure."

As for why he opted to go over the top with the new dishes, he admitted that it's a way to get fans excited to sample the various foods at the ballpark. "Creating fun and talkable items, that’s what really drives [the menu]," he said.

Just like the players on the field, staying in shape is crucial, especially if you'll be in the stands consuming any of these concessions.
