Part electric motorcycle, part dirt bike, this off-roader boasts carbon-fiber wheels and a massive 324 lb-ft of torque.
What’s the difference between an electric motorcycle and an electric mountain bike? The new Graft EO.12 that just landed on U.S. soil nearly eviscerates any perceived distinction. Even its starting sticker of $8,500 comes in way under what a lot of upper-echelon electric mountain bikes will cost you. That makes this first-of-several Graft projects (expect side-by-sides and beyond to come) super exciting—at least on paper. Once we get one to test, we’ll have much more to say about whether the following ingredient list coheres into the ripping off-roading adrenaline factory we’re hoping for.
But here's what we can say about the Graft EO.12 so far.
First Look at Graft EO.12: Key Takeaways
1. It’s Insanely Lightweight
An e-bike that tipped the scales at 110 pounds would be hefty, but there’s no off-road motorcycle on Earth this light, and you can credit a very high-tech, CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum frame. Parts of the drivetrain have also been made of ultralight 3D-printed titanium and, with carbon-fiber rims, Graft shaves unsprung weight. That should make the EO.12 feel especially nimble, too.

2. The Suspension Is Built for Dirt
This first Graft won’t be street legal. It’s built for dirt, with a suspension to match. Both the hydraulic fork and shock offer three settings of adjustability. The fork’s 42-mm stanchions should be meaty enough to handle air time, and 8.6-inch front and 9-inch rear travel should easily cushion you through the chunder of rugged singletrack. Also, 11 inches of ground clearance will let you bull rush over logs and boulders without worry of damaging the undercarriage.
3. There's Enough Power for Stump Pulling
Graft wants you to know the EO.12 is powerful—like 33.5 horsepower powerful. That’s impressive, especially since a clutchless drivetrain never has to be shifted and can't be stalled, which makes this an attractive bike for anyone looking to get into off-roading without learning that delicate dance between clutch and throttle.
Even pros will have to dial back the massive 324 lb-ft of torque. While media were told about three power settings, we sure hope that torque curve is micro-adjustable, so you can flatten the churn of that 21-inch back tire. Otherwise that’s overkill power that'll be very hard for even professionals to safely manage.

4. Graft Introduces a Smart Electric Strategy
Graft understands nobody wants to buy an e-moto that becomes obsolete as new battery formats and tech develops. Graft commits the EO.12 will be forward compatible with any new battery tech for a decade. The brand also built this bike with a hot-swappable battery, so if the three hours of ride duration isn’t enough to sate your backwoods fix, you can replace the power pod with another. Bonus:
Recharging only takes 90 minutes.
5. Expect Over-the-Air Updates
Graft is wise to add the ability for riders to customize their display and allow wireless OTA updating, not just with what we guess will be future visuals, but also incrementally overhauling aspects of power and connectivity. Carmakers have already learned how to eke out more range from extant electric cars this way and it’s likely Graft might achieve that capability as well.
